General Information:
More than 50 years ago, nobody would have thought of driving a Unimog 416 through New York, Tokyo or Berlin. This Doka was designed as a work vehicle, with the added capability of transporting five people to work, even over rough terrain.

The historical documents, such as the data sheet from Daimler-Benz AG, Gaggenau plant, and the vehicle registration document from 1971, are available.

Our Unimog is compact and nimble; with a top speed of 95 km/h and a short chassis, I, as the future owner, have a wide range of possibilities. Thanks to the reduced load limit of 3.5 tonnes, a Class B driving licence is sufficient.

Having taken my seat in the air-suspension driver’s seat, I notice that my four other passengers can sit comfortably despite their larger builds. The 5.7-litre six-cylinder engine runs perfectly. The heated front seats and a reversing camera are useful.

Getting five people to agree on a common plan isn’t easy, because once we’re off, we have a whole range of ways to have fun.

One person wants us to use all the technical options: Werner Type 535 front winch, large gearbox with auxiliary gearbox, crawler gears and worm gears, Rockinger drawbar, car trailer coupling, Werner H64 subframe winch, original Werner forest protection plates front and rear, original Schmidt mounting plate at the front, hydraulic tipper body, air couplings front and rear, hydraulic connections at the rear, and auxiliary headlights front and rear.

Another wants to drive all the way to Paris, because the 416 is so comfortable to drive. One asks what has been restored on the vehicle, and is told: restoration including an engine overhaul, fitting of reconditioned high-speed axles, insulation of the headliner with the installation of a storage panel, and fitting of a heavy-duty drawbar on the flatbed.

One passenger finds it too cold and asks for the Eberspächer auxiliary heater to be started. One of them is constantly taking photos and videos because we want to sell the vehicle and he’s fallen in love with it.

Finally, the vehicle’s Wheelbase of 2,900 mm and the length of the flatbed of 1,450 mm are discussed.

On one point, all the passengers agree: totally cool.
